Abstrak

The personality and behavior of the Prophet Muhammad. He is a role model for Muslims in all
aspects of life. Because his main prophetic function is none other than the educator of the people, his
tradition in educating the people is very much considered by the Muslims to be applied from generation to
generation, from one country to another. This clear, firm, pure, and original source has made Islamic
education always have clear bases and goals, even detailed and subtle operational procedures, no matter
how far apart the time and space between the role model and the implementers of Islamic education may
be. Bumi Nangroe Aceh Darussalam is proof of the words above. Islam entered, took root, and developed
in the area known as the Veranda of Mecca, not with the real strength of the soldiers, but through the
power of the pen and the tongue of the teachers and educators. The traditions of Islamic education that
were planted by the pioneers of the entry of Islam to Aceh continue to be cared for and maintained by the
sons of Aceh, both as individuals and through educational institutions. The author, using a historical study
methodology, reveals the values of Islamic education which were absorbed from the exemplary person,
namely Muhammad saw, and applied by Acehnese scholars such as Hamzah Fansuri, Samsudin
Sumatrani, Nuruddin ar-Raniri, and Abdurrauf Singkel, as well as by other institutions. Islamic
educational institutions with Acehnese names such as Meunasah, Dayah, Rangkang and Bale, which for a
long time have made the Sultanate of Aceh the center of Islamic education in Southeast Asia. At the end
of the study, the author briefly reveals several reforms to these institutions in line with the political
developments that occurred.
